Cocoon and Art Exhibit

As a part of Goodman's Summer Art Program the kids and I made this giant cocoon/nest/pod mobile. It is made of grape vines, branches, garland and tied together with rope and cloth donated by the families of the children. For some of the children it was their first time tying anything. In class, we talked about what family, home and community are. How these things may look different, but how the main thing is heart. We looked to other cultures and the animal world. The children also made these paintings, drawings and assemblages about how they feel about their family, home and community. The sculpture is over 7 feet tall and is suspended in Goodman's lobby. This show is at Goodman through August. Way to go Kids!
